Fractionable case study AWS

People Tech Group Helps Fractionable Migrate Workloads to AWS

Executive Summary

Fractionable wanted to develop a set of services that support large project teams as well as small businesses and startups. These services span from IT infrastructure to back office functions like recruiting and finance. One of the first customers was a large project team that develops in-car/vehicle infotainment system (ICE or IVI) for General Motors. This team of over 300 needed their engineers to focus on the development needs of the customer, not the infrastructure and tools that support them. To meet their needs the Fractionable team faced various challenges like difficulty in securing the infrastructure to the end-customer’s specified security requirements, a limited number of employees, finite budgets, and the lack of ability to scale, integrate, and deploy efficiently. They also needed help in managing BC/DR with hybrid infrastructure, while migrating their workloads to AWS.

Engagement Scope

The principal objective was to help in migrating the customer’s applications to AWS while configuring and securing the environment. This also involved managing the other components.

As part of the engagement’s scope, People Tech Group was also required to address challenges around:

  • Quick deployments
  • Capital Expenditure
  • Operational Expenditure
  • Scalability
  • Security and compliance

Our Solution

People Tech Group’s solution involved examining different configurations of complex systems while evaluating a Platform-as-a-Service model followed by:

  •  Migrating hybrid workloads to AWS EC2 instances, while building a scalable framework that addressed the business challenges.
  •  Deploying DevOps toolchain components including Jira, Jenkins, Confluence, Perforce, BitBucket, Crowd EC2 instances with Linux with MySQL.
  •  Implementing the Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) for user authentication. This facilitated access to a globally distributed development team.
  •  Deploying Fisheye on Windows Server, IIS, and SQL Server while hosting it on Amazon RDS for SQL Server to help reduce costs and the manual efforts involved in database administration.
  •  Enabling users to access the AWS environment over the Site-to-Site VPN. This ensured that the environment was fully protected.
  •  Facilitating the usage of AWS Cost Optimization tools to scan and review spending regularly.
